A Specialist in Breast Reconstruction Offering Several Advanced Options
Dr. Lerman specializes in breast reconstruction after a mastectomy, lumpectomy, or previous reconstruction. Our New York practice offers several types of reconstructive surgery, including:
DIEP Flap Reconstruction
A deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap reconstruction is a form of autologous surgery that uses your own tissue to recreate the breasts. This form of reconstruction creates the most natural-looking and feeling results. There are several types of autologous reconstruction techniques. The DIEP flap takes excess skin and fat from your abdomen to create a new breast mound.
Corrective Breast Reconstruction
As we age, our breasts can change in size, shape, and perkiness, even after breast surgery. Patients who underwent an autologous breast procedure may notice their breasts begin to droop or sag over time, just like natural breasts. Patients who had a reconstruction with implants could have a rupture, ripple, or shift in the implant that is aesthetically displeasing and uncomfortable. Dr. Lerman can address all of these concerns through corrective breast reconstruction, where he can restore your bustline's shape, symmetry, and projection.
Nipple Reconstruction
Nipple reconstruction is typically the last step in making patients feel confident in their breasts after a mastectomy. While it is not a necessary part of the breast reconstruction procedure, it is the final step that can make your new breasts look the most natural.
Paying for Breast Reconstruction The Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998
According to The Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998 (WHCRA), if your insurance provides coverage for your mastectomy, it must also provide coverage for your reconstruction. Contact our New York practice if you have any questions about your insurance coverage or paying for your treatment.
